The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) is an independent, nonprofit, student-run organization dedicated to providing unmatched progressive programs, information, and resources on issues critical to architecture and the experience of education.
The AIAS aims to promote excellence in architectural education, training, and practice; to foster an appreciation of architecture and related disciplines; to enrich communities in a spirit of collaboration; and to organize students and combine their efforts to advance the art and science of architecture. |

Kick-start your career
- Scholarships & awards
- The Architects Foundation provides scholarship funding to both individual students and directly to universities through multiple programs.
- The Medal for Academic Excellence is awarded annually to the top graduating student in each NAAB accredited program.
- In the AIA/AIAS CRIT Scholar research program, recipients receive $1,000 each toward research projects and are matched with a mentor.
- Competitions
- AIA is a sponsor of the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon®, a collegiate competition that has inspired thousands of students worldwide to enter the clean energy workforce since its inception in 2002.
- The COTE Top Ten for Students is a competition that challenges students, working individually or in teams, to submit projects that use a thoroughly integrated approach to architecture, natural systems, and technology to provide architectural solutions that protect and enhance the environment. Winning students and their faculty sponsors will receive cash prizes.
- Internships
- AIA offers an eight-week summer internship program focused on AIA’s national headquarters renewal. In 2023 we hope to host one Architecture student from each of the seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities with NAAB-accredited architecture programs. - Professional development & networking
- The AIA Conference on Architecture & Design is the architecture and design event of the year. Students may take advantage of a discounted registration rate.
- AIA and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) jointly host an annual Intersections Research Conference dedicated to strengthening the intersection between academia and design practice.
