A Message from Drew Hohenwarter, AIA
Jury Chairperson
|
“It was a privilege to serve as Jury Chair for the AIA Delaware 2024 Design Awards. The jury was inspired by the range and depth of submissions, which reflected a strong commitment to design excellence, environmental responsibility, and community engagement. We saw projects that demonstrated restraint and clarity, others that embraced bold innovation, and many that thoughtfully responded to their context; whether urban, rural, or coastal. Across all categories, the work was marked by a high level of craft, sensitivity to users, and a clear architectural vision. We commend all the honorees for elevating the profession and contributing meaningfully to the built environment.”
Drew Hohenwarter, AIA, President-Elect AIA Central PA |
Drew Hohenwarter, AIA, serves as the President-Elect of AIA Central PA and co-chair of the chapter’s Design Awards committee. A licensed architect, he began his career in Philadelphia after earning his Master of Architecture from Temple University. During his studies, Drew was awarded the Knowles Travel Grant to study in Copenhagen, and contributed to an EPA brownfield revitalization project in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood. Now based in his hometown of Lancaster, PA, Drew is part of TONO Group, where he is actively involved in all phases of design. Passionate about architecture’s role in shaping communities and creating a sense of place, he remains dedicated to thoughtful, impactful design.
Members of the Jury
CHRIS DAWSON, AIAChris Dawson, AIA, founded Chris Dawson Architect in 2009 on the heels of 15 years of experience in Central Pennsylvania. He is a Syracuse University graduate with work that is consistently recognized by the AIA with design awards (24 from 2009-2024).
Chris believes architecture is at its most sublime when it breathes new life into underutilized historic buildings, dating back to his thesis proposal at Syracuse University for the reuse of the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia thirty years ago. His approach to adaptive reuse and renovation work, which comprises much of CDA’s work, is rooted in exploring how two distinct architectural languages can coalesce to create a coherent dialogue. |
KYLE SOLYAK, AIAKyle Solyak, AIA is a licensed architect and serves as the Operations Director at TONO Group, a multidisciplinary firm specializing in architecture, interior design, construction services, and real estate development. As a key member of the leadership team, Kyle manages the Lancaster office, spearheading the firm’s design and construction initiatives. With over 16 years of experience, he plays a vital role in shaping the firm’s design approach, guiding projects from initial concept through to completion with a focus on innovation, efficiency, and quality execution.
Kyle is an active member of AIA, serving as Past President for AIA Central PA and currently serving on the Board of Directors and Government Affairs committee for AIA Pennsylvania. |
BRETT HALLACHER, AIABrett Hallacher, AIA, upon receiving a Master's of Architecture from the University of Detroit Mercy, MI in 2005, Brett began his career at RLPS architects.
During the past 20 years he has worked in the Senior Living and Higher Education markets as both a Project Architect and Construction Administrator. Outside of the office, he has previously been involved in my local Historic Commission and Planning Commissions; at present he is on the AIA Central PA Section Board. |
